Candle care + how we pour
Last updated · May 2026

Every LuxeMyHome candle is hand-poured in small batches in our Gurugram studio. Treated kindly, each one will burn cleanly, evenly, and for hours. Here's everything we've learned — both the way we make them and the way to live with them.
How we pour
We start with natural soy wax — renewable, biodegradable, and slow-burning. We never use paraffin (a petroleum by-product), never palm wax, never dye that bleeds into the wax pool.

- Melt slowly. Wax is melted to ~70 °C in a double boiler — fast melts scorch the wax and dull the fragrance.
- Blend fragrance at 55 °C. We add IFRA-compliant fragrance oils only when the wax has cooled enough to lock the scent in. Concentrations are calibrated per shape so the throw is even across a 30-hour burn.
- Pour into hand-carved silicone moulds. Sculpted forms — shankhs, urlis, kalashes, ganeshas, peonies — come from temple-craft and Indian festival traditions. Jar candles go into pre-warmed glass to prevent sinkholes.
- Set cotton wicks. Pre-tabbed cotton wicks, lead-free, sized so the flame matches the vessel diameter.
- Cool overnight. 12 hours of slow cooling — never a fridge. Quick cools crack the surface.
- Hand-finish. The mould seam is sanded by hand, the wick is trimmed to 5 mm, and the candle is rested for another 48 hours before it ever leaves the studio.
Some pieces will have small marks — a tiny seam line, a fingertip smudge in the wax. Those are the signatures of a hand-poured batch, not flaws.
First burn matters most
On the very first lighting, let the wax pool reach the edge of the vessel — usually 2–3 hours for a jar candle, 1–2 hours for a pillar. This prevents tunnelling (where wax burns down only in the centre and wastes the outer wax).
Trim the wick

Before every burn, trim the wick to 5 mm (about ¼ inch). A long wick smokes, makes the flame flicker, and shortens burn-life. Use a wick trimmer, scissors, or even nail clippers.
Burn time per session
- Jars + tumblers — 2 to 4 hours per session, then extinguish and let the wax cool fully before re-lighting.
- Pillars — no more than 4 hours; longer can melt edges.
- Figures + small candles — 1 to 2 hours; they're decorative pieces.
Burning longer than recommended overheats the vessel and can crack glass.
Where to place
- On a heat-resistant flat surface, away from drafts.
- Away from anything flammable — curtains, paper, bookshelves, and children / pets.
- Don't move a lit candle — wait until the wax has set and the vessel has cooled.
Putting it out
Use a snuffer or gently dip the wick into the wax pool with a toothpick and pull it back upright. Don't blow it out — that scatters smoke and can splash wax.
Storage
Store unburnt candles in a cool, dark place. Direct sunlight fades the colour and softens soy wax. Heat above 30 °C can warp pillars — a real concern in Gurugram summers, so move candles away from west-facing windows.
When to stop
When 10 mm of wax is left in a jar, stop burning. The remaining wax protects the glass from the flame.
Safety reminders
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Don't use water to extinguish a wax fire — smother it. Keep a small metal cover handy.
Recycling the vessel
Once your candle is done, wash the jar with warm soapy water. Use it as a pen holder, succulent planter, or just for storage. The cardboard sleeve and outer box are 100 % recyclable.
